Before all you Apple fannies disagree with this; just remember Apple is trying to sue everyone else too.

    It's all ridiculous.

Nevermind, think I answered my own question. Pays to read.

Can someone keep me up to date on stock levels in San Francisco? Thanks.

It's amazing what someone with the proper tool can do to actually test these kind of issues.

I was waiting for someone to FINALLY grab a caliper and measure both devices. Game over.

It's not DirecTV that has a good app, it's Tivo, which powers directv boxes... don't give DirecTV any credit, they're stuck in the 90s

Umm, no sorry you're way off here. The DirecTV iPad app was developed by DirecTV. Tivo doesn't power D* boxes, the DirecTivo box is still a little ways off.

Go to the iphone settings and scroll down to the bottom and find the facebook tab. Select that, and then "Push notifications".

    Viola.

I don't buy it; Apple offers the Apple TV for $99 which provides AirPlay. I don't think they'll license out the software; Apple has too many negative experiences with licensing out software...

How many AppleTV's were sold last year? How many TV's? How many DVD players? How many AV Receivers?

If AirPlay were implemented on 50% of the TV's being sold and 50% of the AV receivers, 50% of the DVD players, Sony PlayStation, and Nintendo Wii then even at only $4 per device they could end up making more money than they do with AppleTV and in the end make the living room "simpler" for their customers. They would also boost potential sales and rentals of video from the iTunes store.

Just look at the proliferation of Netflix streaming enabled devices on the market today, there is a lot of money to be made here even if it does end up killing the AppleTV.

officially supporting the iPhone requires a little custom work on the part of the carrier. People have been unlocking iPhones for years now and putting them on T-Mobile, but the Visual Voicemail feature is non-functional when you do that.

If T-Mobile isn't expressing any interest in changing things on their network just to support this one phone, that could be a sticking point right there?

The larger carriers like Verizon or Sprint have more resources available to do things like this.

It took a "research firm" to figure this out? I don't know why people were expecting Verizon to get it before T-mobile. All carriers will get it eventually but it makes only sense that the one also using the GSM network will get it first.

Yes, MacRumors has it's own IRC, but which one?

http://www.macrumorslive.com/irc/login/ says it's irc.macrumorslive.com and the post you refferenced is irc.krono.net (which doesn't work BTW) the post you linked to was from 2003.

    krono is the server

The 320M is CUDA-capable. Intel is still evaluating OpenCL.

OpenCL was designed so software could use the processing power of the graphics card/chip to aid the CPU to perform calculations in a way that is not dependent on sending the results to video. In gaming, however, the CPU is enough to run the back-end of the game and the GPU is mainly used to display the image rather than help the CPU in processing the game's engine. Hence OpenCL should not make that much different (perhaps a few FPS but not so much as to make the 3000 better than the 320).

Is OpenCL akin to NVIDIA's PhysX as well as their CUDA? If so then perhaps it can help with the physics engines in some high end games (GTA IV etc comes to mind) I guess?

nice and the new MBA version of the HD IGP will be even lower clocked and the slower processor will only make it worse

True on the lower-clocked graphics, but I'm pretty sure the i-series processors will easily beat the 09-era Core 2s.

The only way which the SB i-series+HD3000 will beat the C2D+320M on the gaming front (which I can think of) is if the game in question is CPU intensive.

No way I'd buy something that expensive with Intel HD 3000. If you need the CPU of a sandy bridge processor get a MBP. The current gen of MBA is such a better mix of CPU/GPU for what the device is meant for.

Agreed. (and not just because I'm a late 2010 Air owner too :p)

It seems that a lot of people are buying Killing In The Name by Rage Against The Machine in hope it will knock XFactor's Joe MacElderry's song from the UK's Christmas number one.

Having never liked the XFactor or the songs Simon "Smug" Cowell has produced from the show, I am supporting RATM for christmas number one. I don't even like Killing In The Name that much, I am just one of the many people fed up of the XFactor and Simon Cowell dominating the UK's pop music industry with conveyer belt rubbish.

What are your guy's views on this?

Nothing really major. If you think Norm Coleman was a good guy, and that EFCA was a bad, bad idea, HD is the place for you to be going. Mostly a matter of personal taste, really.

I need options! I'm happy to shop other competitive retailers. I do avoid Walmart 99% of the time. :) Pretty soon all we will be able to afford is Walmart. :(

That's basically it. You pay the $100 because you don't want to read, learn and figure stuff out. Every Mac sold comes with enough software that you could set up your own services using your DSL or Cable Internet connection. Macs have web severs, FTP servers, email and "all the UNIX Stuff" You already have an iDisk right there on your desk that could be accessed from any computer that has a browser but it's easier for most people to pay $100 than to figure out how to make it work.

Although there is truth to what you are saying, broadband providers such as comcast do not allow for use of server activity on their networks from home computers. There is also the issue that some of us, such as myself, whom know how to do all that you explained simply just like to take a break form everything and keep it simple. Also, I have multiple computers and will gladly pay the annual fee for syncing.. 4 computers, desktop, office, laptop and wife's office computer all synced. .mac is more then web services.

As for the .mac mail, very happy with it, happy to see the old interface gone.. also love the new address book wish the bookmarks page design would have been updated too (although I only use this when traveling and it works so why fix it?).

you know what. If Apple would finally give up ther Megaherz Myth and equal up the numbers that PCs have, then dummies out there would understand the need of a mac. So far the service, the own apps and etc is amazing. But what does it matter if my mom would never get it?

    Cheers
    Dave

I just don't understand all the speculation over the last 3 years regarding carriers for the iPhone. Get over it, people. If it happens, it happens and Apple will announce it. Until then, ANY carrier is a viable candidate.

Not a good survey. The stats seem wrong based on what I'm seeing everywhere else. 2000 people is not a large enough sample set. And although the 40% higher demand makes sense given the full year that took place between introduction of "tablets" as a concept versus as an established product, it means very little. These Apple speculator people need real jobs.

YEP! - But how many people say "do you have a Facebook" when you first meet them and add them later in the day? Also, haven't you heard about the privacy issues, you surely must not live under a rock!

I dont add them.. I swear to you im not a grinch.. I just ignore it. unless I know people well.. I dont add them. Some of my co-workers I dont even add.

If you trust someone enough to see all the things you do on facebook.. you should be able to trust they are not going to KILL or ROB you..

Why do people add others they dont really know?? are we having a contest to see who has the most friends?

Am I alone when only adding people I KNOW I will hang out with or talk to on a normal basis??

    1. Directv has actually taken their time to make a remote control of an an iPad? Why did they even bother? Only 6& of their customer have the proper HD DVR hooked up to broadband, and only about 100k of them will have an iPad. Working for DISH I keep up on the new tech from all the providers. TWC and cablevision got a couple good one, they actually stream live television channels to iPad's, that is a worthy app. Bur a remote control? That is just weak. I still think the best way to get television to your iPad is to use the sling adapter and the DRA app. It streams all my live subscribed channels and my recording to my iPad everywhere I am. Right now all DISH subscribers are eligible for a free sling adapter, check it out at http://goo.gl/Qsggz
